This morning we arrived in Ho Chi Minh City for a stop over.
On the way from Frankfurt, there were great cloud formations over Germany yesterday and this morning over South East Asia.
From the airport, we followed the procession of Motorcycles heading to the city, most probably travellers going to work.
We arrived at our accommodation for the day, the Majestic Hotel by the Saigon River.
After some breakfast and a shower, we visited the War Remnants Museum.
This coincides with the Audiobook biography I am currently listening to called “One Crowded Hour”, the story of Neil Davis, the life and times of an Australian cameraman/journalist who filmed the Indo-China Wars for over 12 years in the 60s and 70s by Tim Bowden.
Neil’s footage is famous, most people would have seen it at some time on TV in any documentaries on Vietnam. When Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese Army in 1974 and Tanks came through the gates of what is known now as the Re-unification Palace, Neil was the cameraman filming the whole event.
So it was great to be able to see the Museum and visit the front of the Reunification Palace to see where the Tanks drove through the gates, those tanks are found in the grounds of the Palace.
Here are a couple of photos I took around the streets, the Cathedral and the Opera House.
