Friday afternoon in Naples we returned to the ship, had some lunch then Keith and I headed out for walk around Naples to soak up the city. After leaving the harbour front with all it’s shops and sellers focused on cruise ship tourists we found the main part of the city. After a walk along the street we headed for the back alley ways to experience the real scene where we were not disappointed.
The century old cobblestones that made up the streets, the apartment blocks that ran for kilometres up the hill, the scooter traffic, the small shops and people conducting business made for a snap shot of world so foreign to Australian life.
The pace of life is so much slower and sense of community is felt as you watch people meet and converse with each other.
As we headed back to the ship, we stopped at a coffee shop for a cappuccino. One thing I’ve appreciated about the coffee here in Italy so far, is that I haven’t had a bad cup yet!
It’s been great just stopping and watching the passing parade of people which as been wonderful.
It’s also been interesting watching the illegal bag sellers make a hasty move when the policzia come to move them on.
They get wind of their arrival, quickly pick up all their luggage and bolt for the nearest alleyway out of site, it’s a hard way to make a euro when the guy next to you and three up is selling the same style of bag as you are, which most cases is a genuine copy!

Glad you enjoyed Naples. When I was there our guide was originally from Naples so was very proud of his town and gave us a great back streets walk. The museum there is awesome but don’t guess Ken will be up for that, we’ll see. We go to Naples too. Our ship is pretty much the same size so it will be interesting to compare. Back to the Lakes Diatrict (where there is no 3G!)
