Frankfurt, now there’s an interesting name for a city. I wonder what the background is to the name?
Beside the association and my thinking of German sausages, we arrived at Frankfurt Airport at 5.30am in the morning.
Unfortunately the sun wasn’t up by the time we got here, however, we were awake from our flight from Hanoi.
We left Sydney on the Saturday morning and had a great flight to Ho Chi Minh city. After arriving to the afternoon monsoon rain and high humidity, we were shuffled from the international terminal to the domestic terminal to be later put on to the same plane for our flight to Hanoi. The main thing is it all works.
I first visited Hanoi around 1993 and then landed at this old terminal with a couple of MIG fighters parked next to the old runway, with some grassed over holes in the ground which may have been caused by a B52 bombing raid in the Vietnam war. By 1998 when I next visited, they had a new modern terminal that was catering for the growth in business. In 2013 there’s this ginormous modern terminal which makes Sydney terminal look like Hanoi back in the early 90s.
We boarded our flight to Frankfurt late on Saturday night, skipped dinner and went to sleep. It seems like we got a decent rest.
So, here we are in Frankfurt Airport awaiting our ride to Rome, here are a few pictures for you to check out.
Make sure you keep your eye out for Travis the Trip Beagle, he’s going to appear from time to time in some pics.
